Christian Colligation of Apologetics Debate Research & Evangelism

"And according to Paul's custom, he went to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and giving evidence that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and {saying,} 'This Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you is the Christ.'" -- Acts 17:2-3

Christian sites dealing with Cults

Throughout the history of the church, various beliefs have sprung up that hae denied one or more essential doctrines of the Christian faith. This site, which will always be under continuous construction due to the influx of new and ever-evolving cults, is designed to attempt to direct the visitor to sites relating to cults and counter-cult apologetics.

Egalitarian Links

Should women be pastors? What is the Biblical role of each of the sexes in the church and home? The relationship between men and women and the roles they have played in church history is explored in these links. This site contains both links to groups and papers which support a broad view of the relationship between men and women, as well as a link to each individual chapter of an online book available at Leadership University exploring the Biblical relationship between men and women from a more conservative perspective.

How Can a Good God Allow Evil and Suffering?

The age-old question which St. Thomas Aquinas identified in his Summa Theologica as the only positive argument against the Existence of God. This page links you to sites that offer different views on the answer. Some are technical, some are emotional, some are philosophical, and some are extremely practical. Regardless of your approach, we hope there is something there for you.

Evolution(ism) v. Intelligent Desigh

Those devoted to the belief that all life evolved from single simple celled organismism in a completely naturalistic way claim that the growing intelligent design movement is "creationism in a white lab coat." The Intelligent Design advocates point to the dogmatic assertions of evolutionists about things that science can neither test or know as proof that evolution is certainly not free from (anti-)religious underpinnings. A much debated topic even among CADRE members, here are some links that will help you understand the lay of the land in this highly volatile area.

Arguments for the Existence of God

What would an apologetics website be without being able to link to sites that present arguments and evidence for the existence of God? Well, here is our effort to bring to you some of the best links with scholarly arguments and plain-old down-to-earth arguments in favor of Theism, generally, and Christianity in particular. Site includes links to arguments (or warrants) for websites making varied arguments for the existence of God including the Cosmological Argument, Plantiga's Warranted Christian Belief, and more.

Historical Jesus Copycat Savior

All too often it is said that Christianity simply copied the "myth" of the dying and rising savior from one of many of the early mystery religions, like Egyptian myths, Osiris, etc. etc. Is there reason to believe that the writers of the Gospels were writing history and not merely revisiting myths of other pagan cultures? Here are links to papers and sites that will help you to understand (and perhaps engage in debate with) those who hold such views.

Was Hitler a Christian? Of Course Not

When in the world did people start thinking this? To show the hypocricy, ask yourself: how many skeptics doubt that President George Washington was a Christian despite the fact that he quoted the Bible many, many more times? Well, in the off-chance you come across one of the people who actually believe this "Hitler was a Christian" nonsense, these links contain lots of reasons to show them that such thinking is--to put it bluntly--foolish.

Jesus Christ King Messiah

Many people reject the Lordship of Jesus Christ because they do not accept the view that He, and only He, accurately and completely fulfills the requirements set forth in the Old Testmant for the coming Messiah. This link will take you to a page with many articles on this topic. Metacrock, one of our founding members, has responded to this challenge many, many times with great success based upon the information found on this page. A veritable feast of sites and information showing Jesus is the one and only Christ.

The Jesus Seminar -- Bad Philosophy Makes Bad Religion

Ah, those nutty guys at the Westar Institute known as the Jesus Seminar have been counting beads and making a shambles out of Biblical study claiming that the Historical Jesus bears no relationship to the Jesus of Faith, but it doesn't matter anyway. But every Easter, there they are back in some newsmagazine's cover story talking like they are the mainstream scholarship in the area of the study of the historical Jesus. We have links to webpages upon webpages discussing the flaws in the Jesus Seminar's methodology.

Christian Martyrs Resource Page

Occasionally, someone will actually suggest that martydom is an invention of the church, i.e., that no one really died for the faith, but rather that the church invented tales of martyrs as a means of building up the faith through creating heroes (who never really were). Here is a page that presents some of the best resources and discussion of Christian martyrs.

The Ontological Argument: Does it Prove God's Existence?

Does that fact that we can conceive a being for which there is no greater mean that such a being must exist in reality? This is a fascinating philosophical argument for God's existence that has puzzled philosophers since St. Anselm of Canterbury first proposed it about 1000 years ago. Be warned, this is not an argument for those unprepared for deep thinking, and a background in philosophy is helpful.

Panentheism Anyone?

Panentheism is all the rage. Tillich and Moltmann have claimed it for Christianity, but Pantheists claim it for Pantheism, Wiccans claim it for Wicca. So is it Christian or not? We have some links to sites that discuss this view.

Postmodernism Page

Is there such a thing as truth? Has truth become relative or subjective? Does the meaning of any written text depend upon the observer? Many philosophers have decided that absolute truth is a phantom. Postmodernism attempts to bring meaning to the meaningless universe, but in doing so does it rob Christianity of its power to proclaim the "truth of the Gospel"? This page explores the issues relating to Christianity and Postmodernism.

(Re)Dating the New Testament

Exactly how old are the books that make up the New Testament? The German scholars of the Tübingen school in the 1830s dated the books as late as the third century. This type of dating seems out of touch with the tenor of the writings themselves which purport to be written by people who personally witnessed the events described. This page links to some documents which discuss the dating issue emphasizing those articles advocating an early dating of the New Testament books.

Roman Catholic Links

The Catholic Church has a rich tradition of producing great theologians and apologists like St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Augustine and St. Anselm of Canterbury. Today's catholics remain among the top-notch apologists in the world. This site links to many great Roman Catholic sites that argue for both general apologetics and various propositions held uniquely by the Roman Catholic church.

Science and Religion

Some believe that science was held back by Christian belief that limited scientific research. Others argue that science blossomed in Western Europe due to the prevailing world view which Christianity provides. This site links to sites which explore the belief that God and science are not two separate searches for knowledge, but are complementary. Really, really good stuff in here.

The Trinity: The Divine Mystery

The Blessed Trinity (Father, Son and Spirit) is as misunderstood and mysterious of doctrine as exists in the church. The articles linked to this page try to explain and explore the nature of the triune God revealed through the scriptures.

Why I am a Christian

People often mistake a belief in faith as "blind faith." To the contrary, Biblical faith, as defined in Hebrews 11:1, "faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." As noted by Gregory Koukl of Stand to Reason: "For the biblical Christian, the facts matter. You can't have assurance for something you don't know you're going to get. You can only hope for it." This page is designed to post a number of testimonials by Christians explaining what it is that makes them believe that Christianity is true. In other words, what facts or evidence do they see as compelling?

"Because Christ is risen, there is hope. If we have said that much, we have done well. If we have answered a hundred questions but have not managed to work in that much, we have not done well. If we've convinced an atheist that the New Testament is 98% as originally written down, but they are still scared to die because they think it means their own annihilation; if they are still scared to approach God because they still imagine him to be a cosmic bully, then we have not done well. If Christ had not risen, what hope would we have? Would we be sure there will be a resurrection? Would we be sure that God is merciful? Would we be sure that God loves mankind and wants to save us? Peter, who wrote these words, had himself seen Jesus risen from the dead. He knew what he was talking about. Jesus’ resurrection changes everything."

-- Anne A. Kim, "The Verse that Launched a Thousand Apologetics Enterprises" from the Cadre Comments.

"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear..." 1 Peter 3:15
